Day 2Moshi – Lemosho Gate – Forest Camp. 4km / 2.5hrs

Enjoy breakfast at your leisure before completing your final preparations for the expedition.

We depart Moshi and drive approximately 2 hours to the Lemosho Gate, where we complete the necessary registration and entry formalities. From the trailhead, we enjoy lunch before beginning our trek through the lush, untouched rainforest. The trail winds gradually uphill towards our first campsite, surrounded by the sounds and scenery of Kilimanjaro’s beautiful forest.

  • Elevation: 2,380 m → 2,895 m
  • Distance: 4 km
  • Hiking time: 2-3 hours
  • Habitat: Rainforest

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Mountain Guide, Fully Supported expedition INCLUDED.

Day 3Forest Camp - Shira Camp 2 | 15km / 9 hours

After breakfast, we begin our trek through the upper rainforest, gradually leaving the dense vegetation behind as the landscape opens into Kilimanjaro’s moorland zone.

The trail becomes more open and rugged as we climb towards the Shira Plateau, with increasingly impressive views across the mountain and surrounding landscape. We continue at a steady pace, allowing our bodies to adapt to the increasing altitude before reaching Shira 2 Camp, our home for the night.

  • Elevation: 2,895 m → 3,850 m
  • Distance: 15 km
  • Hiking time: 8-9 hours
  • Habitat: Moorland

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Mountain Guide, Fully Supported expedition INCLUDED.

Day 4Shira Camp 2 - Lava Tower - Barranco | 10km / 7 hours

Today is an important acclimatisation day as we climb higher before descending to our overnight camp.

After breakfast, we leave Shira 2 Camp and gradually ascend across the alpine desert towards Lava Tower, reaching approximately 4,630m. This is a key part of the expedition, allowing your body to experience higher altitude before we descend to sleep lower at Barranco.

From Lava Tower, the trail descends through dramatic volcanic landscapes towards Barranco Camp, situated beneath the impressive Barranco Wall. The changing scenery and spectacular views of Kilimanjaro make this one of the most memorable days on the route.

“Climb high, sleep low” is the principle today — an important part of our acclimatisation strategy.

  • Elevation: 3,810 m → 4,630 m → 3,976 m
  • Distance: 10 km
  • Hiking time: 6–8 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Mountain Guide, Fully Supported expedition INCLUDED.

Day 5Barranco Camp - Karanga Camp | 6km / 5 hours

After breakfast, we take on one of the most exciting sections of the Lemosho Route — the Barranco Wall.

The climb is more challenging than the previous days, requiring some hands-on scrambling in places, but no technical climbing experience is required. Our guides will support the group throughout, helping everyone navigate the steeper sections safely.

Once over the Barranco Wall, the trail continues through a series of valleys and ridges before a final ascent to Karanga Camp. With the summit now getting closer, the landscape becomes increasingly rugged and dramatic.

We arrive at camp in the afternoon, allowing time to rest, refuel and prepare for the next stage of the expedition.

  • Elevation: 3,976 m → 3,995 m
  • Distance: 6 km
  • Hiking time: 4–5 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Mountain Guide, Fully Supported expedition INCLUDED.

Day 6Karanga Camp - Barafu Camp | 5km / 4 hours

After breakfast, we leave Karanga Camp and begin our final acclimatisation trek towards Barafu Camp, the starting point for our summit push.

The trail climbs steadily through the stark alpine desert, with vegetation becoming increasingly sparse as we gain altitude. Although today’s hike is relatively short, the altitude makes it important to maintain a steady pace and stay well hydrated.

We reach Barafu Camp, situated at approximately 4,673m, where we have an early dinner and prepare our equipment for the biggest challenge of the expedition — summit night.

After an early rest, we will wake during the night and begin our ascent towards Uhuru Peak, 5,895m.

  • Elevation: 3,995 m → 4,673 m
  • Distance: 5 km
  • Hiking time: Approximately 4 hours
  • Habitat: Alpine Desert

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Mountain Guide, Fully Supported expedition INCLUDED.

Day 7Barafu Camp – Uhuru Peak – Millennium Camp | 17km / 12-14 hours

Summit Day — the moment we have been preparing for.

We wake in the early hours and begin our summit push under the stars. The trail climbs steadily towards Stella Point (5,739m) before continuing along the crater rim towards Uhuru Peak, the highest point in Africa at 5,895m.

The final ascent is demanding, with freezing temperatures, high altitude and fatigue all testing your determination. But with our experienced guides and strong team spirit, we keep moving towards the summit.

Standing at Uhuru Peak is an unforgettable moment — the culmination of months of preparation and days of trekking.

Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Mountain Guide, Fully Supported expedition INCLUDED.

After celebrating at the summit and taking our photographs, we begin the long descent back down the mountain. We return to Barafu for a short rest before continuing downhill through the alpine desert and moorland to Millennium Camp, where we spend the night.

  • Elevation: 4,673 m → 5,895 m → 3,700 m
  • Distance: Approximately 15–17 km
  • Hiking time: 12–15 hours
  • Habitat: Arctic → Alpine Desert → Moorland

Day 8Millenium Camp - Mweka Gate - Moshi | 15km | 5 hours

After breakfast, we begin our final descent from Millennium Camp, making our way through the lush rainforest towards Mweka Gate.

The descent is a welcome change after the demanding summit day, with warmer temperatures and greener surroundings as we gradually lose altitude. Once at the gate, we complete the final exit formalities and celebrate our achievement with the mountain team.

From Mweka Gate, we transfer by vehicle back to Moshi, where we check into our hotel, enjoy a well-earned shower and have time to relax after an incredible Kilimanjaro expedition.

  • Elevation: 3,700 m → 1,650 m
  • Distance: Approximately 15 km
  • Hiking time: 5 hours
  • Habitat: Rainforest
  • Transfer: Mweka Gate → Moshi

Breakfast, Lunch, Mountain Guide, Fully Supported expedition INCLUDED.

Day 9Rest day in Moshi

A well-earned day to relax, recover and enjoy Moshi after completing your Kilimanjaro expedition. Take the day at your own pace, with the option to join an optional excursion to the nearby Hot Springs, a beautiful natural lagoon surrounded by palm trees: perfect for a refreshing swim before the safari adventure begins.

Optional: Hot Springs excursion
Overnight: Moshi

Breakfast, Celebration Dinner INCLUDED.

Day 10Safari Day 1: Moshi – Tarangire National Park

After breakfast, we leave Moshi and begin our Tanzania safari adventure, travelling towards Tarangire National Park.

Known for its spectacular landscapes, ancient baobab trees and large herds of elephants, Tarangire is one of Tanzania’s most rewarding wildlife destinations. We spend the day on a game drive, keeping an eye out for elephants, giraffes, zebras, lions and other wildlife roaming across the park.

In the late afternoon, we leave Tarangire and continue to Mto wa Mbu, where we check into our premium lodge, enjoy dinner and relax after our first day on safari.

  • Destination: Tarangire National Park
  • Activity: Full-day game drive
  • Accommodation: Premium lodge, Mto wa Mbu
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Breakfast, Packed Lunch, Dinner, Safari Guided tour INCLUDED.

Day 11Safari Day 2: Ngorongoro Crater

After an early breakfast, we depart for the spectacular Ngorongoro Crater, one of Africa’s most extraordinary wildlife destinations and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

We descend into the crater for a full-day game drive, exploring the vast caldera in search of its incredible wildlife. The crater is home to large populations of lions, elephants, buffalo, zebras, wildebeest and other species, with the possibility of spotting the endangered black rhino.

After an unforgettable day surrounded by some of Tanzania’s most impressive scenery and wildlife, we ascend from the crater and continue to Karatu, where we check into our premium lodge for the evening.

  • Destination: Ngorongoro Crater
  • Activity: Full-day crater game drive
  • Accommodation: Premium lodge, Karatu
  • Meals: Breakfast, lunch & dinner

Day 12Safari Day 3: Lake Manyara National National Park - Moshi

After breakfast, we head to Lake Manyara National Park for our final safari experience.

The park offers a completely different landscape from Tarangire and Ngorongoro, with lush forests, open plains and the spectacular alkaline lake. During our game drive, we look out for elephants, giraffes, zebras, buffalo, baboons and a wide variety of birdlife.

After exploring the park, we enjoy lunch before beginning our drive back to Moshi, where we arrive in the late afternoon and bring our Tanzania adventure to a close.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which route has the highest success rate?

  • The route we have chosen is considered the most scenic and with the highest success rates due to its acclimatization stages and a shorter summit push.

Acclimitazation: do we need oxygen or altitude pills?

No oxygen needed, and altitude pills are not mandatory. As a rule of thumb when climbing at high altitude, acclimitisation and gradual climbing are the golden rules. This minimizes the risk of altitude sickness and improves your chance of summiting.

Our experienced guides will be equipped emergency oxygen and with common altitude medications such as Diamox, should the need arise.

How fit should I be to join the trip?

You don’t need to be a hardcore trekker or an athlete, that’s for sure. Kilimanjaro is an easy high altitude climb that requires only walking with no technical climbing. The adventure calls for 7 days with approximately 4-6hrs of walking a day, with a longer summit push. The fitter you are, the higher your chances of success. It is fair to say that before you take the Kili challenge, you are able to walk comfortable for 3-4hrs a day.

To make your life easier, we are offering a complimentary mountain climbing training plan to all our clients, designed by Ryan Mex.

What about training and preparation before the climb?

To make your life easier, we are offering a complimentary mountain climbing training plan to all our clients, designed by Ryan Mex. You need to be in good physical shape to climb Kili.

Will it be the right season to climb Kili?

June to September is the best time to visit Mt. Kilimanjaro. These months are sunny most of the time which ensures mild climate and guaranteed views.

Is it possible to arrive earlier / stay longer?

Yes, ofcourse. As long as you are in Moshi or Kilimanjaro airport on the trip dates, you are free to arrive / leave whenever you want. It is best to let us know your plans so we can organise transfers accordingly.

What type of insurance do I need?

Every climber is required to make a travel insurance package which covers mountain climbing up to 6000m. This is an absolute must for any mountain expedition.

What kind of accommodation is available on the mountain?

Each expedition sleeps under the stars in 2-men tents every night on the mountain. The trip includes fully catered camping and sleeping equipment (Sleeping Bags + Tents) for the expedition. Tents are pitched by our team of climbing crew and porters, and disassembled also by the same team.

How about food and water on the mountain?

Full board meals are prepared for us by the climbing crew. Safe drinking water is provided for everyone.

What vaccinations do I need?

As per WHO suggestions, it is recomanded to have shots of yellow fever, Hep A & Hep B, rabies and typhoid.

What's the power plug in Tanzania?

Power plugs used in Tanzania are D and G types (similar to the ones used in the United Kingdom). The 2 pin standard plug works.

During trekking, it is recommended to bring power bank to charge your devices.

Will it be cold on the mountain?

As we climb higher and higher, yes it gets very cold. The climb takes us from tropical climates to alpine climates, with varying temperatures between +25C and -10C. Refer to our recommanded Climbing and Equipment Gear list.

Cancellation Policy

    • At Mexventures, we understand that plans can change. Our cancellation approach is designed to be fair and transparent while recognising that many travel arrangements involve advance commitments to third-party suppliers.

      How to Cancel

If you wish to cancel your booking, you must notify us in writing as soon as possible by emailing mexventurestravel@gmail.com and cc’ing explore@globaltravelbook.com.

Your cancellation request will be effective from the date we receive written confirmation.

      Refunds and Cancellation Charges

Following cancellation, Mexventures will review your booking and determine what amounts can reasonably be recovered.

Where possible, we will recover any funds that have not yet been paid to, or are not contractually committed to, third-party suppliers, including but not limited to:

      • Accommodation providers
      • Airlines and transport operators
      • Activity and excursion providers
      • Guides and local operators
      • Permit and entry authorities
      • Other travel service providers

Some trip elements may be prepaid, non-refundable, or subject to supplier cancellation terms. These costs may still be payable even if you cancel your booking. Please note that many components of group travel are prepaid and non-refundable. As such, the closer the cancellation is to the departure date, the lower the likelihood of recovering any funds.

      As a general principle:

      • Early cancellations (3 months from the tour date): If cancellation is made sufficiently in advance and Mexventures has not yet committed funds or incurred non-recoverable costs, we may refund all or most of the amount paid, less any unrecoverable charges already incurred.
      • Late cancellations (within 3 months from the tour date): Where bookings have already been confirmed and payments committed to suppliers, cancellation charges will increase significantly and could result in little or no refund being available.

Cancellation outcomes will therefore be assessed on a case-by-case basis, depending on supplier terms, timing, and recoverable costs.
