Join a fun and like-minded group trip with Michelle from ‘Cheeky Passports’ on a 10 day journey across Uzbekistan through the Great Silk Road cities of Khiva, Bukhara and Samarkand. We will visit beautiful palaces, mosques and ancient castles as we journey back in time and explore Uzbekistan’s wondrous architecture and monuments.

 We will also visit the pleasant capital, Tashkent including the fascinating Chorsu Bazaar, and spend one night in a traditional yurt! You will also have the opportunity to go n a camel ride.

Itinerary

Day 1ARRIVAL IN TASHKENT

Arrive to Tashkent airport, meet and greet service. Transfer to the hotel, early check-in, having rest.

Breakfast at the hotel.

10:00 City tour in Tashkent :

Excursion through old part of the city: complex Khasti Imam: consisting of Kaffal Shashi Mausoleum (XV), Barak Khan Madrassah (XVI), Muy-Mubarak Mosque – storehouse of the well-known Koran of Khalif Osman and gold hair of prophet Muhammad; Dzhuma-mosque of Khodja Akhrar Vali, Abdulkasim Madrassah (XIX).Shopping at CHORSU national oriental bazaar.

Alisher Navoi Opera and Ballet Theatre, Amir Timur Square with a monument to the great commander in the center, famous Tashkent clocks and the Uzbekistan (Intourist) Hotel, Palace of Forums, “Broadway” – an alley of artists.

Dinner can be organized as a group or independently.

Day 2TASHKENT | KHIVA

Transfer to Tashkent Domestic Airport.

05:00 Transfer to the airport, 07:00 flight to Urgench BY HY51 (subject to change),

08:30 arrival and transfer to Khiva (30 km). Transfer to Khiva (30 km).

Khiva city tour:

If you ever dreamed of getting into Eastern fairy tale, then your dreams come true. City tour in Khiva around: Ichan-Kala architectural complex (XII-XIX), the Residence of the last Khiva Khan including Ismail Khodja Mausoleum, Muhammed Amin Khan Madrassah, Kunya-Ark Castle (XVI-XVI), Kalta Minor Tower, Tash-Hovli Palace (XIX). Pahlavan Mahmud Mausoleum (XIV-XVIII), Juma Mosque (X) and other Khiva tourist sights. Narrow streets, carved “ayvans” veranda and doors, majestic minarets and mausoleums, heritage and arts –all kept with care in this city as great treasure.

Day 3KHIVA | KALAS’ | KHIVA

Breakfast at the hotel.

Morning visits to the ruins of the ancient fortresses Shylpyk-Kala – a Zoroastrian dakhma, Janbas Kala, Ayaz Kala and Toprak-Kala – the capital of Khorezm in 3rd c. AD.

Later drive back to Khiva.

Rest of the day on your own explore.

Day 4 KHIVA | BUKHARA

 

Breakfast at the hotel

Morning drive to Bukhara.

In old days, route from Khiva to Bukhara lasted more than a month. Today it takes 6-7 hours by vehicle, through mysterious red desert “Kyzyl-Kum”, the territory of “Khorezm”, which was called in the past as a “State of Thousand and Hundred Cities”. What kind of secrets are buried in this desert, this is something what archeologists and historians will be trying to find in the future? Meanwhile, you are invited to view the exotic landscapes of desert with old Amudarya River (Oxus). Photo stop at Amudarya river. On the way: Visit to Ulli-Khovli Complex.

Arrival to Bukhara, check-in to the hotel.

Day 5BUKHARA

Tour of Bukhara: Ark Citadel – a city within a city (4th century BC), Bolo House Mosque (early 20th century) The architectural ensemble of Poi-Kalon (Pedestal of the Great), the religious heart of Holy Bukhara, consists of the Kalyan minaret, the Kalyan Mosque and the Miri-Arab madrasah. Ulugbek Madrasah (1417), Nodir – Divan – Begi Madrasah, Abdul Aziz Khan Madrasah, Magoki-Attori Mosque (12th-16th centuries), Lyabi Hauz Ensemble (14th-17th century), The Kosh-Madrasah ensemble (consisting of two opposing madrasahs Madari-Abdullakhan (Abdullakhan’s mother) and Abdullakhan madrasah, the Samanid Mausoleum (the tomb of representatives of the Samanid dynasty of the late 9th – early 10th century), the Chashma Ayub Mausoleum (Job’s Spring), Chor Minor (Four minarets).

Dinner and Evening show at the Nodir Devon Begi Madrasah.

Day 6 BUKHARA

Excursion out-of-town program in Bukhara:
Visit to the mausoleum of Bahoutdin Naqshbandi (XVI-XIX centuries) Sufi teacher, considered the founder of the most significant Sufi order, Naqshbandi.Visit to the necropolis of Chor Bakr. In the necropolis of Chor-Bakr there are burials of sheikhs from the family of Djuybar Seyids. The necropolis itself is a fairly large architectural complex, listed in the UNESCO catalog. The name of the necropolis “Chor-Bakr” means “Four Brothers”, but abroad the necropolis is better known as the “City of the Dead”.A visit to the palace of Sitorai Mohi Khosa (Palace like stars and the moon) is the country residence of the Emir of Bukhara, built in the late XIX – early XX century.

Day 7 BUKHARA | NURATA

Breakfast.

Drive to Nurata on the way stop in Gijduvan to see private pottery workshop: view Alexander the Great castle.

Transfer to Yangigazgan village, following to yurts camp.

Camel ride.

Evening dinner at camp and a camp fire while listening to national Kazakh singer (Akyn)

Day 8 SAMARKAND

Breakfast.

Transfer to the Aydarkul lake for a short swimming or walking.

Lunch boxes will be given from the yurt camp.

Day 9SAMARKAND | TASHKENT

Excursion program in Samarkand:

Mausoleum of Guri Emir – the tomb of Tamerlane (14-15 century) – the place where Amir Temur, his sons and grandsons are buried. Registan Square is one of the outstanding examples of urban planning art of Central Asia, formed in the XVII century and consisting of three madrasahs – Ulugbek (1417-1420), Sher-Dor (1619-1636) and Tillya-Kari (1647-1660). On it you can “turn the pages” of the many thousands of histories of Samarkand.  Bibi Khanum Mosque is the largest in Central Asia and one of the largest in the entire Muslim world. It is on this structure that everyone who enters the city directs his astonished gaze. Huge, majestic, silent. The architectural complex of Shahi – Zinda (11th-15th century) is the burial place of royalty and nobility. But the main mausoleum, from where the necropolis begins, is the imaginary grave of the cousin of the Prophet Muhammad – Kusam Ibn Abbas. He was called “Shahi Zinda”, which means “Living King” in Persian.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to arrive earlier / stay longer?

Yes, of course. As long as you are in Nairobi on the trip dates, you are free to arrive / leave whenever you want. It is best to let us know your plans so we can organise transfers accordingly. 

What type of insurance do I need?

Every client is required to have a travel insurance package. This needs to be presented to us.

What's the power plug in Uzbekistan?

For Uzbekistan the associated plug type is C and F which are plugs with two round pins. The standard voltage is 220 V at a frequency of 50 Hz.

Do I need a visa to enter Uzbekistan?

Maltese citizens do not need a visa. 

Hows the food situation?

Food is quite diverse in this region. It’s possible to find oriental or European. Up to your taste. Most of the restaurants contain in the menu both – Uzbek and European dishes.

What about currency and payments?

We advise to bring cash. Visa or Mastercard well presented, but not always work properly.

  • International flights are not included. However, as mentioned above, we could book together as a group or you can book your own flights and be in Nairobi on the itinerary dates. Your flight must arrive by or before the Arrival Day, and depart no earlier then the Departure Day.

Cancellation Policy

  • If you cancel your booking, we will offer a refund of any balance which we have not yet paid or are obliged to pay to any other Third Party. When a booking is cancelled within the month prior to departure, the remaining balance will be non refundable as well as we would be fully committed at that stage. All types of travel insurance are supposed to cover “cancellations” and for this reason we require that such travel insurance is purchased prior to travel.
