Day 1 - 13th AugustCape Town - Arrival Day

Welcome to South Africa!!!

Arrive at Cape Town International Airport where you will be met by one of our representatives who will escort you to your transfer vehicle.

Board your coach and depart for your first destination, Cape Town. 

*The drive from Cape Town International Airport to your Hotel  will take about 20–25 minutes (depending on the traffic)

Check into the Sunsquare Gardens, Cape Town where you will be staying for 3 nights on a Bed & Breakfast basis.

Suggestion:  Dinner and Djembe drumming at Gold Restaurant.

Day 2 - 14th AugustCape Town - Full Day Peninsula Tour (B)

Enjoy Breakfast and depart on a Full Day Cape Peninsula Tour.

Heading out of the city the journey along the coast will past the pristine beaches of Clifton and Camps Bay. To the left, the majestic peaks of the Twelve Apostles touching the sky, while to the right, the cliffs drop sharply into the Atlantic Ocean.

Continue via the scenic  Chapman’s Peak Drive to the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve and Cape Point. Here, surrounded by valleys of fynbos and a variety of wildlife in their natural habitat, you can take in some of the most extraordinary views in the Western Cape. For an even better view of the Two Oceans, you can take the Funicular to the lighthouse.

Stop for lunch (for your own account) before the journey continues to Boulders Beach, one of the most flourishing colonies of African Penguins in South Africa. From here, it is only a stone’s throw away from Simon’s Town, where you can see the South African naval base.

Return to your hotel in the afternoon and spend the evening at leisure.

Day 3 - 15th AugustCape Town - Cape Town and Table Mountain (B)

Enjoy Breakfast and depart for a fun day out exploring  Cape Town  and Table Mountain.

Your first stop will be at the V&A Waterfront to visit the Two Oceans Aquarium – South Africa’s premier marine attraction, showcasing the beauty and diversity where the Indian and Atlantic Oceans meet.

The Aquarium offers a perfect blend of wonder, education & conservation, ideal for all ages from casual exploration to behind‑the‑scenes deep dives. Whether you’re fascinated by majestic kelp forests, playful penguins, or keen to dive with sharks, it’s a highlight of Cape Town.

The children will enjoy the opportunity to meet endangered African and rescued northern rockhopper penguins. Feeding sessions take place around 11:30 am and 2:30 pm daily. Another favourite for kids (and curious adults) are the Interactive stations where they can feel starfish, sea cucumbers, urchins, and anemones guided by staff to promote education and safety.

Continue to Table Mountain, the iconic flat-topped landmark overlooking Cape Town.

A visit to Table Mountain is one of the top highlights when exploring Cape Town, a combination of natural beauty, incredible views, and an unforgettable experience. Take the rotating cable car to the top – the ride takes just 4–5 minutes. 

Spend some time on the mountain before making your way back down.

Continue to Camps Bay for some leisure time on the  picturesque Camps Bay Beach. Camps Bay Beach offers soft sand, a gentle gradient, and rock pools for exploring. A bonus is the Family-friendly cafés and playground on the lawns.

Return to your hotel in the afternoon and spend the evening at leisure.

Day 4 - 16th AugustStellenbosch (B)

Depart for your next destination in the Winelands, Stellenbosch

*The drive from Cape Town to  Giraffe House  is approximately  45 minutes (depending on the traffic)

En-route to Stellenbosch, stop at Giraffe House.  

  • 🦒 Main Attraction: The centre’s towering resident giraffe, “Gerry,” who’s always a highlight for visitors.

  • 🐾 Creepy Crawley Encounters:  It gives the visitor the opportunity to meet and hold some interesting creatures. These encounters are at 11h00, 13h00 and 15H00

  • 🚸 Family Friendly: Kids can enjoy the spacious play area and interactive animal encounters.

Following your stop at Giraffe House, the coach will transfer you to Le Pommier

Nestled along the scenic Helshoogte Pass, Le Pommier is ideally positioned on the main route between Stellenbosch and Franschhoek, making it a perfect destination to experience the captivating beauty of the Cape Winelands. 

Here the adults will be treated to a South African food and wine pairing, whilst the children can enjoy a juice and pizza pairing.

Day 5 - 17th AugustHermanus - Whale Watching (B)

On arrival in Hermanus, make your way to the Southern Right Whale Charters. 

The whale watching experience begins with an on-land briefing led by our whale specialist guide – giving you some more information on the day’s plans ahead. We then set off from the Hermanus New Harbour in search of the ‘gentle giants.’  During the tour, the friendly, knowledgeable crew are on hand to add that personal touch allowing for an all-round great experience.  With all eyes on watch, the excitement builds for who can see the first whale of the trip!  While around the whales, they are in charge – as we enter their world – getting to spend some unforgettable moments in nature.  Our onboard team, will help interpret the whales (and other marine life encountered), keeping you informed, providing insight into the behaviours of the whales while we watch them.

On your return to land, check-in at The Whale Coast Hotel. 

Spend the rest of the day at leisure, visiting local markets and exploring the seaside town.

*The drive from  Hermanus to Mosselbay takes about 3hrs & 30minutes  You’ll pass through some stunning mountain passes and ocean landscapes,  making this a truly scenic road trip!

Check in to the Diaz Beach Hotel  where you will be staying for night on a Bed & Breakfast bases.

Visit the Diaz Museum which has the following sites to explore:

Day 7 - 19th AugustOudtshoorn (B)

Enjoy breakfast and check out.

*The drive from  Mosselbay  to Oudtshoorn takes about 1hrs & 30min .  Oudtshoorn is the heart of the Klein Karoo and is famous for its ostrich farms, the Cango Caves, and scenic mountain passes. 

At the Cango Caves the familes will take an easy/moderate walk through the first six largest halls of the cave.  The route continues through to the “African Drum Room”, one of the show chambers. Duration is about 60 minutes

In the afternoon, visit the Highgate Ostrich Show Farm for interactions with the world’s largest bird, the ostrich, which lays the largest egg, has the most beautiful feathers and eyes that make you want to fall in love and hug them! 

Some highlights will include feeding the ostriches by hand and visiting the factory where they manufacture ostrich products such as dusters, boas etc.

Check into Swartberg Manor  where you will be staying for  a night on a Bed & Breakfast bases.

Day 8 - 20th AugustKnysna - Tsitsikamma Storms River Park & Knysna Elephant Park (B)

After breakfast, check-out. 

*The drive from  Oudtshoorn  to Knysna takes about 2hrs & 20min, depending on the traffic. 

On arrival in Knysna check-in at Protea Hotels Knysna Quays where you will be staying for 2 nights on a bed & breakfast basis. 

Drive from Knysna to Tsitsikamma to visit the  Storms River Mouth in Tsitsikamma National Park, which includes a famous suspension bridge over the river mouth.  The walk takes you along forest roads with beautiful scenic coastal shorelines. 

In the afternoon, continue onto Knysna Elephant Park, which was the first facility in South Africa to house and care for orphaned African elephants. The present KEP herd numbers five – the largest domesticated matriarchal herd in the country. Our style of management offers guests the opportunity to get up close and personal with our elephants, on elephant terms. Responsible and educational interactions allow guests to appreciate the awe-inspiring presence of these animals, but still give the elephants the space and freedom to choose where they want to move, what they want to eat and who they want to interact with.  ( Children of all ages are welcome). 

Return to the hotel and enjoy the evening at leisure. There are alot of restaurants to choose from in the Waterfront area. 

Optional: Before departing to Knysna, you have the option to include a Berluda Meerkat Tour (additional charge). This will be a very early departure. You will venture into a private game reserve with an accredited and experienced field guide, to visit our local meerkat family. Watch them emerge from their cosy bunkers to bask in the morning sun and learn more about these fascinating little creatures from your guide. Other animals in the reserve include springbok, wildebeest, nyala, kudu, eland, bat-eared jackal, and an array of indigenous birds and flora. Tours are weather-dependent and subject to availability. Departure times are early morning and subject to change (seasonal). The tour takes about 2 hrs. (no under 8years). This experience would begin at 6.30am, you will then join the group at 9.30am to depart from the hotel all together, price – ZAR 815pp)

Day 9 - 21st AugustKnysna - Monkeyland, Jukani, Birds of Eden & The Farm Yard (B)

Today, after breakfast, depart on your full day animal adventure visiting the following activities: 

  • Monkeyland – offers a unique, ethical wildlife experience where more than 550 rescued monkeys and lemurs roam freely in a lush indigenous forest. Families can enjoy a guided walking safari through the forest, crossing a 128-metre suspension bridge while spotting species like capuchins, gibbons, and lemurs. The one-hour tour is educational and suitable for all ages, with a strong focus on conservation and animal welfare — no touching or feeding is allowed.
  • Jukani – Jukani Wildlife Sanctuary, near Plettenberg Bay, is a refuge for rescued big cats and other predators who can’t survive in the wild. On an ~80-minute guided walking safari you’ll see lions, tigers, leopards, jaguars, cheetahs, hyenas, and lesser-known species like caracals and honey badgers, all housed in spacious enclosures designed around their natural needs.
  • At the heart of the Farmyard at Jukani is a message of Education, where kids learn about Farm animals. 
  • Birds of Eden – Birds of Eden, near Plettenberg Bay, is the world’s largest free-flight bird sanctuary, housed under a massive dome spanning about 2.3 hectares of indigenous forest.  With over 3,500 birds representing some 200-220 species—many rescued from captivity—the sanctuary lets visitors wander along elevated wooden walkways, ponds, waterfalls, and even behind a waterfall ruin, all while observing the birds flying and living as naturally as possible

What age is best for kids to join this trip?

This trip has been designed with children in mind. While prices are listed from age 2, we recommend that children are at least 5–6 years old to fully enjoy the experience.

Is South Africa safe for children?

Yes, South Africa can be a safe and rewarding destination for families when you travel with reputable guides and follow common-sense precautions. Many of the regions we visit, such as Cape Town, the Garden Route, and private game reserves, are well-developed and welcoming to children.

One of our co-founders personally experienced this same trip in early 2025 with their own family, ensuring every destination and activity is suitable and enjoyable for kids. We carefully select family-friendly accommodations, trusted transport providers, and safe environments throughout the journey.

As with any international destination, we recommend supervising children closely, avoiding unfamiliar areas after dark, and following local safety advice.

Entry regulations for Children

Children travelling into the country with both biological parents must travel with:

  • Valid passport of travelling parents and child

  • Visa, if required

  • Birth certificate listing both parents (note: these must be the original documents, or certified

    copies of the originals)

    A child travelling with just one of the parents listed on his or her birth certificate must also present:

  • Parental consent affidavit not older than four months from the non-travelling parent, or

  • Letter of special circumstances issued by Director-General of Home Affairs (or similar) in the

    event that a parent or parents are incapacitated or deceased and no legal guardian has been appointed as yet.

What should we pack for safari?

After booking, we will organise a group meeting, and we will provide you with a brochure that includes further details and a packing list.

Are any vaccines required to enter the country?

No vaccines are required for entry. However, it is strongly recommended that you consult your doctor or the Immunisation Centre in Malta before travelling. They can advise you on any recommended vaccinations or preventive measures to help ensure your safety and wellbeing during your trip.

Is it possible to arrive earlier / stay longer?

Yes, of course. As long as you are in Cape Town on the trip dates, you are free to arrive / leave whenever you want. It is best to let us know your plans so we can organise transfers accordingly.

What type of insurance do I need?

Every client is required to have a travel insurance package. This needs to be presented to us.

What is the accommodation like?

All accommodations for the trip are listed in the day-to-day itinerary.

How about food?

South Africa is home to a vast range of cuisine. You’ll have the opportunity to taste local cuisine, enjoy kid-friendly options, and we can accommodate special dietary needs with advance notice.

How is the weather like in the time of travel?

August is winter in South Africa, with mild, sunny days and cooler mornings and evenings. It’s dry in the game reserves (ideal for wildlife spotting), while coastal areas like Cape Town and the Garden Route can be cooler. Layered clothing and a warm jacket are recommended.

Do I need a visa to enter South Africa?

Maltese passport holders do not need a visa to enter South Africa. If you hold a different passport, please let us know and we will guide you through the requirements.

Currency and preferred payment method while in South Africa

The official currency in South Africa is the South African Rand (ZAR).

Payment methods:

  • Credit and debit cards are widely accepted at hotels, restaurants, and larger shops.

  • Cash is useful for small purchases, markets, tips, and remote areas.

  • ATMs are widely available in cities and tourist areas.

We recommend carrying a mix of cash and card, and letting your bank know you’ll be traveling to avoid any card issues.

A final version of the itinerary will be provided in booklet form closer to the trip dates. We strive to provide equivalent alternatives to ensure the best experience for our travelers.
  • If you decide to switch from a shared room to a single room after booking, the single supplement option won't apply. We'll need to work out a new price for the single room based on each individual case.
  • It is the responsibility of the persons joining an experience to communicate any food intolerances/allergy-related information. GTB or the Service Provider will not assume any liability for adverse reactions to food/drinks consumed, or items one may come in contact with while on an experience

  • Travel and Health insurance is obligatory: All travellers must be fully insured, and purchase their own travel insurance which covers the particular trip being booked. A waiver document must be filled in, signed and sent back to Globaltravelbook.
  • International flights are not included. You must book your own flights and be in the visiting country on the itinerary dates. Your flight must arrive by or before the Arrival Day, and depart no earlier then the Departure Day.
  • Signing up to any of our trips and any risks involved are the sole responsibility of the individual, and organizers cannot be held responsible in any way to illness, altitude sickness, injury or trauma during the trip.
  • If a traveller for some reason cannot travel on the dates, the organiser is not responsible.

Payment Details

To secure your spot you need to send a deposit either via bank transfer or use our online payment system (select 25% option) after completing the booking form. Second payment is required by the 20th April 2026. Last payment is due on the 1st June 2026.

For the flight: 25% of the fare  is to be paid via bank transfer right after reserving your spot by paying your first deposit. The complete payment for the flight will have to be paid 1 or 2 months before departure,

Cancellation Policy

  • If you cancel your booking, we will offer a refund of any balance which we have not yet paid or are obliged to pay to any other Third Party. When a booking is cancelled within the month prior to departure, the remaining balance will be non refundable as well as we would be fully committed at that stage. All types of travel insurance are supposed to cover “cancellations” and for this reason we require that such travel insurance is purchased prior to travel.
