Nemrut – Ararat – Cappadocia: A Journey Through Turkey’s Peaks & Ancient Landscapes

Embark on a twelve-day adventure to the summit of Mount Ararat (5,137m), the legendary peak long linked to the story of Noah’s Ark followed by the Fairy Chimneys & Ancient Cave Cities of Cappadocia

Trek through volcanic landscapes, camp beneath star-filled skies, and follow well-established trails toward the high camp. Summit day delivers a challenging push to the glacier-capped peak, rewarded by sweeping views stretching across Turkey, Armenia, and Iran. After celebrating on the summit, descend safely back to base camp and return to town for a well-earned rest.

After descending from the high mountains, unwind with three magical days in Cappadocia. Explore its surreal landscape of fairy chimneys, hidden cave churches, underground cities, and sweeping valleys. Enjoy gentle hikes, local cuisine, and the chance to take an optional hot-air balloon flight at sunrise—one of the world’s most iconic travel experiences.

This journey combines physical challenge, cultural insight, and breathtaking scenery—an unforgettable climb on one of the region’s most iconic mountains.

Ararat is the highest peak in Turkey and the Armenian highlands with an elevation of 5,137 m. It dominates the Turkish skyline with its twin volcanic cones—Greater Ararat and Little Ararat (3,896m). Spanning a vast 35 km-wide base, the massif has inspired explorers for centuries, and has held deep cultural and spiritual significance since the Middle Ages.

Traveller Testimonials

“Nothing but praise for MexVentures – the training provided, information meetings, and equipment recommendations leading up to the expedition. For the expedition itself, accommodation packages before and after the mountain were amazing; the professional team of guides/porters; and other optional excursions organised during free time. The experience was excellent from start to finish, highly recommended for experienced trekkers and even those with limited experience!”Read More

Frequently Asked Questions

How fit should I be to join the trip?

You don’t need to be a hardcore trekker, that’s for sure.

Mt. Ararat is a beginner friendly high altitude climb that requires only walking with no technical climbing. The adventure calls for 4 days with approximately 4-6hrs of walking a day, with a longer summit push. The fitter you are, the higher your chances of success. It is fair to say that before you take the Mt. Ararat challenge, you are able to walk comfortable for 3-4hrs a day.

Please ensure you are in decent physical condition and able to walk for extended periods of time.

To make your life easier, we are offering a complimentary mountain climbing training plan to all our clients, designed by Ryan Mex.

Will it be the right season for this trip?

July is generally a good season to climb Mount Ararat. July falls in summer, so temperatures are milder, ranging roughly 5°C–15°C at higher altitudes (base camp and above). July is one of the best months for climbing Ararat for both safety and accessibility, with stable trails, long daylight, and milder conditions.

For Cappadocia, July is excellent for full outdoor access, balloon rides, and scenic hikes, but it’s busy and hot, so plan early bookings and start outdoor activities early in the morning to avoid peak heat. Daytime temperatures often ranging 28°C–35°C (82°F–95°F) and cooler nights around 15°C–18°C (59°F–64°F).

What is the accommodation like?

Accomodation will be hand selected 3-4* hotels. The price includes accommodation in a shared private double room, however, if one wishes to have a private room that sleeps (1 person) plus a private tent as well, this is possible at an additional cost of  €200.

Each expedition sleeps under the stars in 2-men tents every night on the mountain. The trip includes fully catered camping + Tents for the expedition. Tents are pitched by our team of climbing crew and porters, and disassembled also by the same team.

What meals are included?

All meals on the mountain are included in the cost of the trip.Full board meals are prepared for us by the climbing crew. Safe drinking water is provided for everyone.

In the city, lunch and dinner are not included.

What type of insurance do I need?

Every climber is required to make a travel insurance package which covers mountain climbing above 5000m. This is an absolute must for any mountain expedition.

What travel vaccines are needed?

Vaccinations are subjective – they are required like most destinations outside of Europe.

As per WHO suggestions, make sure you are up-to-date on all routine vaccines such as flu, tetanus, chickenpox and measles.

It is recommended to call the Floriana Immunisation centre for more specific details on 21231231.

Visas and Entry Requirements

No visa required for Turkey.

What about training and preparation before the climb?

To make your life easier, we are offering a complimentary mountain climbing training plan to all our clients, designed by Ryan Mex.

It is fair to say that before you take the Mt. Ararat challenge, you are able to walk comfortable for 3-4hrs a day.
