Iten is the home of many Kenyan athletic champions. Choosing Iten, Kenya, for a training camp is a popular and strategic decision for many elite and amateur athletes. Infact, Iten is nicknamed the “Home of Champions” because it has produced dozens of world-class athletes, including Olympic and World Champions like David Rudisha, Mary Keitany, and Ezekiel Kemboi. In Iten, you’re immersed in a motivating environment, surrounded by some of the best.
Iten has cool temperatures all year round, making the climate optimal for long hours of training in the outdoors. Iten now offers many professional training camp facilities with gyms, physios, masseurs, and high altitiude tracks.
Iten is located at 2,400 meters (7,900 feet) above sea level. All facilities in Iten, including accomodation, track, and training grounds are at high altitude, making it optimal for gaining an altitude advantage.
Training at altitude is one of the most effective natural methods to boost endurance performance. At higher altitudes, there’s less oxygen in the air. Your body adapts by producing more erythropoietin (EPO), a hormone that stimulates the production of red blood cells. More red blood cells means Better oxygen delivery to muscles, and Improved aerobic capacity (VO₂ max).
Training at high altitude increases red blood cell count, improving oxygen transport. When runners return to sea level, they often experience a boost in performance.

Every traveller is required to have a travel insurance package including medical insurance which covers Kenya. This is an absolute must for any of our trips.
Before travelling to Kenya, it’s important to ensure you’re up to date with routine vaccinations and to consider additional vaccines recommended for travel in the region. Always consult with the Floriana Immunisation clinic on 21231231.
Recommended vaccinations for Kenya:
Measles, Mumps and Rubella (MMR)
Diphtheria, Tetanus and Polio
Influenza
Hepatitis A – Recommended for all travellers to Kenya
Typhoid – Also recommended for most travellers
Hepatitis B – Considered for longer trips, close contact with local people, or if you’re likely to need medical treatment while in Kenya.
Rabies – Rabies is present in Kenya and vaccination is recommended for most travellers to rural areas (such as Iten).
Yellow Fever – A yellow fever vaccination is only required for entry into Kenya if you are travelling from or transiting through a country with risk of yellow fever transmission. Even if you’re not coming from such a country, many travel clinics still recommend the vaccine as a precaution when travelling to Kenya.
Malaria Prevention:
Iten sits at high altitude (around 2,400m), so malaria risk is very low to negligible there, however some surrounding areas may pose a risk. We advise speaking to your doctor about malaria prophylaxis and bringing insect repellent and long-sleeved clothing to reduce the risk of mosquito bites.
Yes – we offer an optional one-day safari to Lake Nakuru National Park. This can be an opportunity to see some of Kenya’s incredible wildlife, including lions, rhinos, giraffes, zebras, and flamingos, all within a beautiful national park setting.
