Why you should join our trip to South Africa:

This trip will be a small group of max 14 persons and is designed by the travel experts at Globaltravelbook & Fabio Spiteri who will also be present on this trip together with the licensed tour guides. The team has designed close to all-inclusive tour which includes hand picked activities, transport and highly rated 3-4-Star accommodation (list provided below). This trip of a life time has been designed to a high standard to make you enjoy your trip to the fullest, with an excellent balance between comfort and unique experiences.

The trip includes bicycles for all participants, covered in the trip cost. For those who prefer not to cycle, a discount is applicable and alternative travel arrangements can be accommodated, and the itinerary will be adjusted accordingly. Throughout the journey, a dedicated support vehicle will accompany the group, ensuring assistance is readily available for any emergencies or unforeseen situations.

Bikes & Level of Fitness:

  • Bikes: Mountain bikes equipped with gravel wheels will be provided to accommodate the road conditions.
  • Fitness Level: This trip requires a decent fitness level and is not suitable for beginners if you choose the cycling option. The cycling level for this trip is moderate, which means you’ll need some cycling experience, fitness and practice to keep up.
  • Non-Cycling Option: Guests who prefer not to cycle are welcome to join the trip at a discounted rate (€166)

Day 1 - 17th OctoberArrival in Cape Town Non-Cycling Day

Arrival at Cape Town International Airport at approx 11.50am

    • Arrive at Cape Town International Airport.
    • Depending on your arrival time, settle into your accommodation and freshen up.
  • Late Morning:
    • Head to Table Mountain. Take the cable car to the summit for breathtaking views of Cape Town, the Atlantic Ocean, and the surrounding mountains. 
  • Afternoon:
    • Explore the Bo-Kaap neighborhood.   Wander through its colorful streets, visit local spice shops, and learn about its rich cultural history.
  • Evening:
    • Spend time at the V&A Waterfront. Visit shops, relax at cafés, or enjoy street performances.
    • Enjoy dinner at a local restaurant, experiencing authentic South African cuisine with views of the harbor or city.

Day 2 - 18th OctoberCape Town - Non-Cycling Day

      • 09h00 – Your driver-guide will meet you at the Hotel and transfer you to Stellenbosch and Babylonstoren wine farm.   

        Included in your visit to Babylonstoren is a cellar tour and wine tasting.  

        Journey to our underground wine tunnel to savour Babylonstoren’s finest wines. Our cellar tour starts in the vineyards above ground, where vines from various styles are cultivated. From there, we venture into the working cellar with its array of wine-producing vessels, from amphorae clay pots to open cement fermenters and concrete eggs. The tour concludes with a master tasting of our finest wines, paired with farm-grown and handmade delicacies.  

        Babylonstoren was voted the best Innovative Wine Tourism Experience in the country in 2022 by the Best of Wine Tourism Awards.

  • Elevation Profile: Rolling hills with some climbs along the coastline.

    • Morning:

      • Depart for Cape Point early in the morning, cycling along the scenic Chapman’s Peak Drive(weather permitting). This road is famous for its stunning coastal views.
    • Cycling:
      • Enjoy the ride through Hout Bay, passing by Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and then continuing towards Cape Point.
    • Lunch:
      • Stop for lunch at Cape Point and explore the area, including a hike to the lighthouse for panoramic views of the coastline. 
    • Afternoon:
      • Explore the nearby Cape of Good Hope and the beautiful beaches. Keep an eye out for local wildlife, including ostriches and baboons.
    • Evening:
      • Cycle back to your accommodation in Cape Town. Depending on energy levels, you can use the coach transfer that is available which will be travelling with the group.

Day 4 - 20th October Cederberg - Ceres to the West Coast - Cycling Day

Day 8 - 24th OctoberOudtshoorn - Swartberg Pass and Meiringspoort - Cycling Day

  • Highlights: Iconic mountain passes and stunning views.

  • Distance: 70 km (43.5 miles)

  • Elevation Gain: Approximately 1,200 meters (3,937 feet)

  • Elevation Profile: Steep climbs and descents through breathtaking mountain scenery.

  • Activities:

    • Morning:
      • Road transfer to Prince Albert.
      • Prepare for cycling.
    • Cycling:
      • Cycle through Swartberg Pass and Meiringspoort. Experience breathtaking scenery and the thrill of cycling through mountainous terrain. 
      • The rest of the day will be spend exploring the  Swartberg mountains (UNESCO World Heritage site) as you travel to the summit of the world-famous, Swartberg Pass. This national monument dates back to 1881 and offers stunning panoramic views of the Little and Great Karoo which you can overlook over 200 km with your bare eyes. From the summit, guests are able to take a walk in the reserve between 500 different species of fauna and flora. There are several photo opportunities along this winding route which will leave you in awe.  After the tour enjoy Traditional Karoo Cuisine at Kobus se Gat Restaurant. Feast on certified Karoo lamb chops, boerewors, ostrich kebabs, pumpkin fritters and a variety of salads and vegetables freshly harvested from the gardens at the restaurant. Freshly baked Roosterkoek served with homemade marmalade forms part of the meal. Roosterkoek (in Afrikaans – Askoekie) is a traditional bread prepared on the coals. This is a true Karoo experience like no other.

        Visit the  Meiringspoort Waterfall, its thundering waters and the glorious rainbows that it forms.

Day 9 - 25th OctoberPlettenberg Bay (Cycle to Knysna)- Cycling D ay

  • Morning:
    • Check-out and Cycle to  Plettenberg Bay after breakfast (approximately 2hrs – 50 min drive).
  • Cycling/Hiking:
    • Robberg Nature Reserve, located just outside Plettenberg Bay on South Africa’s Garden Route, is a haven of natural beauty and historical intrigue. Perched on a rugged peninsula that stretches into the Indian Ocean, this reserve offers a harmonious blend of dramatic landscapes and vibrant ecosystems.

      The reserve is renowned for its diverse topography, which includes steep cliffs plunging into the ocean, golden sandy beaches, rolling dunes, and dense coastal fynbos. The terrain constantly shifts underfoot, with hiking trails ranging from leisurely strolls to challenging circuits. The trails wind through breathtaking viewpoints, offering panoramic vistas of the turquoise ocean, often dotted with pods of dolphins or southern right whales during their migration season.

        Enjoy a Feather eco experience with lunch.  This activity includes a ferry cruise, 4×4 vehicle drive and a 2,2 km guided nature walk. The views are breath-taking, and the knowledgeable nature guides will share their insights of the area, fauna and flora. Once completed you will be treated to a spectacular outdoor buffet food experience included in the tour. Definitely a must-do trip while in Knysna.

      • From here your guide will drive to the Knysna heads, for you to experience the beautiful views.

      It goes without saying that the heartbeat of Africa is synonymous with tribal drums.  As such, Gold’s optional pre-dinner interactive djembe drumming sessions at 18:30 every night are a fun precursor to a memorable dining experience. 

      Everyone can learn to drum – regardless of how rhythmically challenged you might be!  Their patient, master drummers will guide you through the drumming basics and afterwards a soothing traditional handwashing ceremony precedes their amazing dish feast with live entertainment.

The cycling level for this trip is moderate, which means you’ll need some cycling experience, fitness and practice to keep up. However, participating in cycling is not compulsory.

Can I join the tour without cycling?

Yes, you can! If you choose not to cycle, you will receive a discount of €166 for the bike rental. You will still be part of the group, following along in our transport services. Rest assured, we will make every effort to ensure you are not kept waiting for the cyclists.

Is it possible to arrive earlier / stay longer?

Yes, of course. As long as you are in South Africa on the trip dates, you are free to arrive / leave whenever you want. It is best to let us know your plans so we can organise transfers accordingly. 

What type of insurance do I need?

Every client is required to have a travel insurance package. This needs to be presented to us.

How is the weather like in the time of travel?

October is springtime in South Africa, making it one of the most delightful months to visit. The weather is pleasantly mild, with warm days and cool evenings, perfect for outdoor adventures.

Maltese citizens do not need a tourist visa when traveling to South Africa for short visits. Maltese passport holders can stay in South Africa for up to 90 days without a visa. South African currency and preferred payment method while in South Africa?

The South African Rand (ZAR) is the official currency of South Africa. Most establishments accept payments by Visa or Debit card, especially in urban areas and major tourist destinations and it is the preferred method of payment in South Africa. However, cash is still commonly used in smaller towns, markets, and rural areas.

Travelers can exchange currency to South African Rand upon arrival, and your group leader will assist you with this. Alternatively, you can exchange currency in your home country before traveling. Don’t worry if you prefer to handle it after arriving, we’ll guide you through the process.

What vaccinations do I need?

Tt is important to consult your doctor or an immunisation centre before travelling to determine if you need any vaccinations for your destination.

Q: Where can Maltese citizens get vaccinated for travel?
A: Maltese citizens can set an appointment with the Immunisation Centre in Floriana for vaccinations before travelling abroad.

Cancellation Policy

  • If you cancel your booking, we will offer a refund of any balance which we have not yet paid or are obliged to pay to any other Third Party. When a booking is cancelled within the month prior to departure, the remaining balance will be non refundable as well as we would be fully committed at that stage. All types of travel insurance are supposed to cover “cancellations” and for this reason we require that such travel insurance is purchased prior to travel.
