Frequently Asked Questions

How fit do I need to be for gorilla and chimpanzee tracking?

Tracking can be physically demanding, with hikes lasting approximately 2–6 hours, depending on the location and movements of the primates. The terrain can be hilly, uneven and sometimes muddy, so a moderate level of fitness is recommended. Gorilla tracking can be more challenging than chimpanzee or golden monkey tracking, as it may involve steeper climbs and longer hikes through dense forest.

Each morning, experienced trackers head out ahead of the group to locate the primates, helping to make the experience more efficient. Depending on the animals’ whereabouts, participants may need to hike for 2–4 hours or longer before reaching them.

Porters are available for hire, particularly during gorilla tracking, to assist with carrying belongings and provide additional support along the way.
