The season

When visiting Mongolia during the Naadam Festival, you can expect an immersive cultural experience filled with vibrant festivities and traditional Mongolian sports. During the Nadaam festival you will experience a spectacular parade featuring traditional music, dance, and colourful costumes, showcasing Mongolia’s rich heritage, traditional sports, cultural performances, local cuisine & arts and crafts.

Temperature: Daytime temperatures typically range from 20°C to 30°C  in most areas. Nights can be cooler, especially in the Gobi Desert and mountainous regions, with temperatures dropping to 10°C to 15°C.

Solo Traveller?

More than 50% of our bookings are from solo adventurers. We run open groups which means that anyone could join in the fun and meet like-minded travellers along the way. You can either team up with someone and share a room or else opt for the single supplement. 

What about flights?

We have the first batch of seats reserved at the price of €1200 – a 25% deposit is required on booking and the remaining amount is to be paid 1 or 2 months prior to departure dates

Day 1 - 10th JulyArrival day - Ulaanbaatar

Welcome to Ulaanbaatar! After arrival (at approx 07:20), begin discovering Mongolia’s capital with a selection of cultural and historical highlights.

  • Visit the Bogd Khan Palace Museum, the former winter residence of Mongolia’s last king.
  • Head to Zaisan Hill for panoramic views over Ulaanbaatar and the surrounding mountains.
  • Visit the National Museum of Mongolia to learn more about the country’s history, culture, and nomadic heritage.
  • Enjoy some time to exchange money and purchase a local SIM card, if needed.
  • Settle into the hotel and prepare for the journey ahead.

Day 2 - 11th July Naadam Festival

Arrive at the Central Stadium to experience Mongolia’s most spectacular annual celebration — the Naadam Festival.

  • Attend the grand opening ceremony, taking place approximately from 11:00am to 1:00pm.
  • Enjoy a colourful parade of athletes, musicians, dancers, and horse riders dressed in traditional costumes.
  • Watch choreographed performances, live music, and cultural displays celebrating Mongolia’s rich nomadic heritage.
  • Soak up the patriotic atmosphere as the Mongolian national flag is carried into the stadium in a ceremonial procession.

Day 3 - 12th JulyHorse race (outside of Ulaanbaatar) and continue on to Khustai national park.

Begin the day by experiencing one of Mongolia’s most iconic traditions: horse racing, before continuing to Khustai National Park.

  • Experience traditional Mongolian horse racing.
  • Visit Khustai National Park, best known as the home of the rare Przewalski’s horse, locally known as the Takhi.
  • Explore the park’s beautiful steppe landscapes and keep watch for these remarkable wild horses in their natural habitat.

Day 4 - 13th July Karakorum, the former Mongolian capital

Today we travel to Karakorum, the former capital of the Mongol Empire during the 13th century.

  • Visit Erdene Zuu Monastery, one of Mongolia’s most important historic Buddhist sites.
  • Explore the monastery complex and visit its three surviving temples: the Dalai Lama Temple, Zuu of Buddha Temple, and Lavrin Temple.
  • Learn more about the history of ancient Karakorum and the Mongol Empire.
  • Visit the Karakorum Archaeological Museum, home to artefacts and exhibits connected to the former imperial capital.

Day 5 - 14th JulyTerkhiin Tsagaan Nuur

Today we continue towards Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur, one of Mongolia’s most beautiful lakes, formed by ancient volcanic activity and surrounded by dramatic extinct volcanoes and black lava fields.

  • Visit Zayiin Gegeenii Monastery along the way.
  • Explore the scenic surroundings of Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur Lake, also known as the Great White Lake.
  • Take in the striking volcanic landscape, shaped by lava flows from eruptions thousands of years ago.
  • In the afternoon, enjoy some free time with optional activities such as trekking, swimming, horseback riding, or visiting a local nomadic family to learn more about their traditional way of life.

Day 6 - 15th JulyKhorgo Uul Volcano

Today we head to Khorgo Volcano, an extinct volcano located near Terkhiin Tsagaan Nuur Lake.

  • Hike to the top of Khorgo Volcano and enjoy views over the surrounding volcanic landscape.
  • See the impressive crater, measuring approximately 200 metres wide and 100 metres deep.
  • The hike involves an ascent of around 100 metres and may take approximately one hour.
  • Those who prefer not to take part in the hike may remain comfortably in the transfer vehicle.

Day 7 - 16th JulyOrkhon Valley

Today we explore the Orkhon Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its rich history, beautiful landscapes, and long-standing nomadic traditions.

  • Visit the scenic Orkhon Valley, home to important archaeological remains dating back many centuries.
  • Discover Orkhon Waterfall, one of the most impressive natural sights in the region.
  • Learn more about the traditional nomadic way of life that continues to shape the valley today.
  • Enjoy the possibility of horseback riding through the surrounding countryside.

Day 8 - 17th JulyOngiin monastery

Today we travel to Ongi Monastery, where the ruins of two historic monastery complexes stand on opposite sides of the Ongi River.

  • Explore the atmospheric ruins of Ongi Monastery, once one of the largest Buddhist monastic centres in Mongolia and home to more than 1,000 monks at its peak.
  • Learn about the monastery’s history and the events that led to its destruction.
  • Enjoy some free time to walk around the ruins, which are located close to the Ger camp.
  • Those who wish may also take a hike in the surrounding Delger Khangai Mountains.

Day 9 - 18th JulyBayanzag, Flaming cliff

Today we travel to Bayanzag, better known as the Flaming Cliffs, one of Mongolia’s most famous palaeontological sites.

  • Explore the striking red sandstone cliffs where dinosaur fossils and eggs were famously discovered.
  • Visit the Bayanzag Museum to learn more about the area’s remarkable prehistoric findings.
  • Enjoy time walking around the cliffs, surrounded by dramatic desert scenery.
  • Take in the unique landscape of red sand, rocky formations, and sparse desert vegetation.

Day 10 - 19th JulyKhongor sand dune

Today we travel to the spectacular Khongoryn Els, home to some of the largest and most impressive sand dunes in Mongolia.

  • Explore the vast Khongoryn Els Sand Dunes, stretching for more than 100 kilometres and reaching heights of up to approximately 275 metres.
  • Enjoy a hike across the dunes, taking in sweeping views of the surrounding desert landscape and the nearby Sevrey Mountains.
  • The main hike takes approximately 45 minutes to 1 hour, while the lower dunes can be explored in around 20 minutes.
  • Those who prefer not to take part in the hike may remain comfortably in the transfer vehicle.
  • Visit a local camel-breeding family and learn more about life in the Gobi Desert.
  • Enjoy the possibility of camel riding among the dunes.

Day 11 - 20th JulyYolyn Am

Today we journey through the dramatic landscapes of the Gobi Desert and the spectacular gorges of the Altai Mountains.

  • Visit the small Yolyn Am National Park Museum to learn more about the region’s wildlife and natural environment.
  • Hike through the impressive Yolyn Am Gorge, known for its steep rocky cliffs and striking mountain scenery.
  • Keep watch for local wildlife such as Argali sheep, ibex, desert gazelles, and Golden Eagles.
  • The hike covers approximately 6 km and may take around 4.5 to 5 hours in total.
  • Those who prefer not to take part in the hike may remain comfortably in the transfer vehicle.

Day 12 - 21st JulyTsagaan Suvarga

Today we continue through Mongolia’s dramatic desert landscapes to Tsagaan Suvarga, an impressive natural formation shaped by wind and erosion over thousands of years.

  • Visit the striking Tsagaan Suvarga Cliffs, rising around 30 metres high and stretching approximately 100 metres wide.
  • Take in the unusual colours and formations created by centuries of natural erosion.
  • Continue to Del Uul Mountain to discover ancient petroglyphs carved and painted into the rocks.
  • See historic depictions of hunters, ibex, wild animals, and livestock, offering a fascinating glimpse into life in the region centuries ago.

Day 13 - 22nd JulyUlaanbaatar

Today we begin our journey back to Ulaanbaatar from Tsagaan Suvarga.

  • Travel across Mongolia’s vast landscapes on a long overland drive back to the capital.
  • Enjoy several stops along the way to stretch, rest, and break up the journey.
  • Arrive in Ulaanbaatar and settle back into the hotel.

Day 14 - 23rd JulyGenghis Khan statue and Terelj national park & Folklore Show

Today we head outside Ulaanbaatar to discover some of Mongolia’s most iconic landmarks and natural scenery.

  • Visit the impressive Genghis Khan Monument, one of the country’s most recognisable landmarks.
  • Enjoy a picnic lunch before continuing into the countryside.
  • Explore Terelj National Park, including the famous Turtle Rock formation.
  • Visit Aryaval Monastery, set among the peaceful hills of the national park.
  • In the evening, enjoy a traditional Mongolian folklore show followed by dinner before returning to Ulaanbaatar.

Tips & Important things to know before travelling to Mongolia

  • Connectivity: Expect to Be Disconnected - even with a local sim card, rural Mongolia has little to now internet or phone signal
  • Accommodation at hotel in Ulaanbaatar (4 nights) is based on twin sharing with private bathrooms. Gers are standard and are based on sharing options (2-4 pax in one Gers) depending on availability - all Gers have shared bathrooms with hot showers and are separated (men and women).
  • Travel: Some drives will be be long on so be sure to carry motion sickness pills just in case.
  • Please be aware that this trip involves long days of travel, including extensive off-road driving over rough, bumpy terrain. These drives are an integral part of the experience and essential for reaching Mongolia’s remote and stunning landscapes. While some travelers may find the journeys physically demanding, there are no alternative routes or transportation options available.
  • Stay Hydrated and Sun-Safe: Mongolia's high altitude and dry climate mean you need to drink plenty of water and protect yourself from the sun with sunscreen and appropriate clothing.

Is it possible to arrive earlier / stay longer?

Yes, of course. As long as you are in Ulaanbataar, on the trip dates, you are free to arrive / leave whenever you want. It is best to let us know your plans so we can organise transfers accordingly. 

What type of insurance do I need?

Every client is required to have a travel insurance package. This needs to be presented to us.

Maltese citizens do not need a visa for up to 30 days. 

Hows the food situation?

Mongolian meals primarily consist of meat. However, we can accommodate all dietary requirements, including vegetarian, vegan, gluten-free, and various food intolerances.

In Ulaanbaatar, you can find almost everything in large supermarkets, but options become limited in the countryside.

Breakfast typically includes eggs, ham, sausage, bread, jam, butter, yogurt, cereals, and muesli. Lunch is usually at roadside places while traveling, and dinner is at Ger camps. Main dishes for lunch and dinner feature fried beef, mutton, goat, pork, and chicken with vegetables, noodles, and rice. In the countryside, vegetable options include potatoes, carrots, cabbages, bell peppers, onions, tomatoes, and cucumbers.

  • Confirmation will be received within 24 hours of booking - subject to availability
  • First come, first served basis. The minimum number of people required for this trip is 10 people. In the case this is not reached, you will get your full payment back.
  • Our local partners and tour leader can adjust the itinerary at the last minute due to weather conditions. Changes will only be made with your safety and well-being in mind, and not for any other reason.
  • We will make every effort to pair you with a roommate for a twin room. However, if this is not possible, you will be responsible for covering the single supplement fee.
  • Tour timings and the order of activities are subject to change based on final flight schedules or unforeseen circumstances, such as the unavailability of certain activities. A final version of the itinerary will be provided in booklet form closer to the trip dates. We strive to provide equivalent alternatives to ensure the best experience for our travelers.
  • If you decide to switch from a shared room to a single room after booking, the single supplement option won't apply. We'll need to work out a new price for the single room based on each individual case.
  • It is the responsibility of the persons joining an experience to communicate any food intolerances/allergy-related information. GTB or the Service Provider will not assume any liability for adverse reactions to food/drinks consumed, or items one may come in contact with while on an experience

  • Travel and Health insurance is obligatory: All travellers must be fully insured, and purchase their own travel insurance which covers the particular trip being booked. A waiver document must be filled in, signed and sent back to Globaltravelbook.
  • International flights are not included. You must book your own flights and be in the visiting country on the itinerary dates. Your flight must arrive by or before the Arrival Day, and depart no earlier then the Departure Day.
  • Signing up to any of our trips and any risks involved are the sole responsibility of the individual, and organizers cannot be held responsible in any way to illness, altitude sickness, injury or trauma during the trip.
  • If a traveller for some reason cannot travel on the dates, the organiser is not responsible.

Payment Details

To secure your spot, a 20% deposit  is required after completing the booking form. Payment can be made either by bank transfer or through our online payment system by selecting the 20% payment option.

The remaining balance will be paid in two instalments:

  • Second payment: Due by 1 February 2027
  • Final balance: Due by 1 May 2027

Cancellation Policy

If you choose to cancel your booking, you must notify us in writing on explore@globaltravelbook.com as soon as possible. Upon cancellation, we will assess any recoverable amounts and provide a refund of funds that we have not yet paid, or are not contractually obligated to pay, to third-party suppliers (including but not limited to airlines, hotels, transport providers, and activity operators).

Please note that many components of group travel are prepaid and non-refundable. As such, the closer the cancellation is to the departure date, the lower the likelihood of recovering any funds.

Travel Insurance Requirement: We strongly require all clients to obtain comprehensive travel insurance at the time of booking. Standard travel insurance policies typically provide coverage for trip cancellations due to unforeseen circumstances (subject to policy terms and conditions). As we cannot assume liability for cancellations, failure to obtain adequate insurance may result in financial loss.

No-show or unused services: No refunds will be provided for failure to join the trip, late arrival, early departure, or any unused portion of the travel package.
