Day 0 Welcome to Macedonia

Welcome to Macedonia! Meet your driver at Skopje International Airport. Private transfer to Macedonian Village traditional style accomodation in the outskirts of Skopje. Transfer time to hotel approx 25min.

Experience a peaceful stay in a hotel designed as a traditional Macedonian village, nestled at the foot of Mount Vodno. Surrounded by nature, this ethno-style complex offers cozy, authentic-style rooms that reflect the charm of rural architecture while providing modern comfort.

Guests can enjoy serene walking paths, local cuisine at the on-site restaurant, and quick access to Skopje’s city center, just a short drive away. Perfect for travelers seeking a quiet cultural escape, with the feel of village life and the convenience of hotel service.

Day 1Matka Canyon Adventure & Vrelo Cave

Begin your journey in North Macedonia’s wild heart. After breakfast in a charming cultural village, ascend by cable car to Vodno Cross, where your guided hike begins. Follow panoramic ridgelines down to Matka Canyon, a sanctuary of dolomite cliffs, medieval monasteries, and the emerald Treska River below.

From Vodno Cross, the path takes you over the ridge of the mountain with 360° views of the city and the mountain chains of North, Central, West and East Macedonia to Canyon Matka, with descend of another 600m. This scenic landscape plays host to few stunningly located 13th century Orthodox monasteries, as well as one of the deepest caves in Europe.

Enjoy a serene boat trip to Vrelo Cave, one of Europe’s deepest underwater caverns, before a scenic transfer to the alpine resort of Popova Šapka. Check in at your mountain hotel — Hotel Skardus or similar — and unwind as sunset paints the Šar Mountains.

Optional kayaking in Matka canyon or enjoy coffee at scenic Matka restaurants. 

Dinner is served at the hotel’s mountain-view restaurant, where refined dining meets breathtaking altitude.

Day 2Sharr Mountain Peaks, Waterfalls & Return to Skopje

Wake to crisp alpine air and a hearty breakfast before embarking on a 12 km trekking loop around Popova Šapka — a landscape of rolling meadows, pine forests, and sweeping ridgelines. A packed lunch keeps you fueled as you take in views stretching toward distant Balkan peaks.

In the afternoon, prepare your cameras as you explore the Eight Waterfalls Nature Park, where crystal cascades tumble through lush woodland — a hidden jewel of the Macedonian highlands.

Return to Skopje for check-in at a centrally located hotel.

As night falls, experience an authentic Macedonian dinner with live folk music — a celebration of Balkan culture, cuisine, and hospitality.

By evening, transfer to the airport for your flight home — your heart full of mountain sunrises, canyon echoes, and the refined spirit of adventure that defines North Macedonia.

How fit should I be to join the trip?

You don’t need to be a hardcore trekker, that’s for sure.

It is important to note that there is moderate hiking on this trip. Please ensure you are in decent physical condition and able to walk for extended periods of time.

Will it be the right season for this trip?

June is one of the best times to visit Macedonia — ideal weather, green landscapes, clear trails, and a relaxed pre-summer atmosphere.

June brings warm, sunny days and pleasantly cool evenings, perfect for outdoor adventures. Average daytime temperatures range from 24–30°C (75–86°F) in Skopje and 18–22°C (64–72°F) in the mountains.

Trails in places like Matka Canyon & Popova Šapka are fully accessible — snow has melted at higher elevations, and wildflowers are still in bloom.

What is the accommodation like?

Accomodation will be hand selected 3-4* hotels. The price includes accommodation in a shared private double room, however, if one wishes to have a private room that sleeps (1 person) this is possible at an additional cost of  €120

What meals are included?

Meals (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner) are included in the cost of the trip, excluding the last day in Skopje. We will also include one traditional dinner in Skopje.

What type of insurance do I need?

Every client is required to make a travel insurance package. Make sure it covers all the activities that you will choose to participate in. 

What travel vaccines are needed?

As of 2025, North Macedonia does not require any special vaccinations for entry for most travelers. However, some routine and recommended vaccines are advised for safe travel.

Is it possible to arrive earlier / stay longer?

Yes, of course. As long as you are in Skopje on the trip dates, you are free to arrive / leave whenever you want. It is best to let us know your plans so we can organise transfers accordingly.

Payment Details

A 25% deposit is required to secure your place. The deposit is required immediately in order for us to start covering trip expenses such as permits and accommodation. Deposit can be paid either via bank transfer or our online payment system after completing the booking form.

50% payment is required by end of January 2026.

Remaining balance must be paid by end of April 2026.

Cancellation Policy

  • If you cancel your booking, we will offer a refund of any balance which we have not yet paid or are obliged to pay to any other Third Party. When a booking is cancelled within the month prior to departure, the remaining balance will be non refundable as well as we would be fully committed at that stage. All types of travel insurance are supposed to cover “cancellations” and for this reason we require that such travel insurance is purchased prior to travel.
