  • Afternoon game drive in Masai Mara: A land of the Big Five and thrilling game drives, the park is easily navigable, allowing for close-up views of wild animals.

  • Drive towards Lake Nakuru with lunch en route, as you enjoy the magical site of Mount Longonot and Lake Naivasha from afar.
  • Optional boat ride at Lake Naivasha ($20 pp).

Day 9 - 27th JulyNAIROBI - KIGALI (RWANDA)

  • Breakfast at hotel, then transfer to airport for flight to Kigali. (approx. 1 hour flight)
  • Arrival in Kigali, transfer to Genocide Memorial Museum visit, which is the final resting place for more than 250,000 victims of the Genocide against the Tutsi.
  • Continue by road (2.5 hrs) to Volcanoes National Park.
  • Lunch stop in Musanze town.
  • Check-in at the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 10 - 28th JulyGOLDEN MONKEY TREKKING

  • Breakfast at lodge.
  • Morning briefing at park headquarters before the golden Monkey trekking starts (approx. 3–4 hours).
  • Return to lodge for lunch and refreshments.
  • Afternoon visit to Dian Fossey Museum. Here you will have an opportunity to learn about an American primatologist and conservationist known for her extensive study of the mountain gorilla. 
  • Dinner & overnight at the lodge.

Day 11 - 29th JulyBWINDI IMPENETRABLE NATIONAL PARK

  • Breakfast at lodge.
  • Drive across Cyanika border into Uganda.

  • Continue to Bwindi Impenetrable National Park.
  • Cultural visit to Batwa pygmy community, who are short people that indigenously resided in the park.
  • Evening arrival, dinner & overnight at the lodge.

Day 12 - 30th JulyGORILLA TREKKING

  • Early breakfast at lodge.
  • Proceed to the national park headquarters for a short briefing, local entertainment, and the start of the Gorilla trekking experience. (Approx. 4-6hours; 1 hour spent with the gorillas)
  • Alternative: For those who will not go for Gorilla trekking, they will visit the local school to spend time with children as they wait for the rest.
  • Early lunch after trek
  • Afternoon drive (3 hrs) to Lake Bunyonyi (“Switzerland of Africa”).

Tips & Important things to know before travelling to Kenya, Uganda & Rwanda

A brochure including a packing list will be provided at a later stage.
  • Baggage Allowance - For this trip, hard or large suitcases and extra hand luggage are not permitted due to limited vehicle space. Each traveller may bring one soft bag (duffel bag or soft medium luggage) and one backpack only, to ensure everyone enjoys their trip and fits comfortably in their safari vehicle. Hard suitcases could get damaged during handling due to tight space.
  • Internet & Wifi connectivity is sometimes good and sometimes it is poor especially during the game drives.
  • It is recommended to invest in and pack a good pair of binoculars
  • Pack a light jacket to keep warm in certain areas and a light rain jacket just in case
  • All vehicles have plugs where you may charge all your electronics.
  • Internal flight: 23KG checked in luggage and 7KG hand luggageThis will be reconfirmed at a later stage in the brochure you will receive.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is it possible to arrive earlier / stay longer?

Yes, of course. As long as you are in Kenya on the trip dates, you are free to arrive/ leave whenever you want. It is best to let us know your plans so we can organise transfers accordingly. 

Do I need a visa to enter Kenya, Uganda, & Rwanda?

Visa requirements vary depending on your nationality. Please check the relevant entry requirements before you travel.

For Maltese citizens:

  • Kenya – An Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) is required. The cost is approximately USD 30. You can apply online at https://etakenya.go.ke/.

  • Rwanda – Visa on arrival available. No payment is required for Maltese citizens.

  • Uganda – No visa is required for Maltese citizens.

Health Requirement:
A valid Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is compulsory when entering Rwanda and Uganda.

Assistance:
GTB can assist with visa/ETA processes if needed. Should entry laws change between the time of writing and your departure date, GTB will update you privately.

Are any vaccines required to enter the country?

YES – For this trip, it is compulsory to have your yellow fever vaccine certificate when entering Rwanda and Uganda. 

It is strongly recommended that you consult your doctor or the Immunisation Centre in Malta before travelling. They can advise you on any recommended vaccinations or preventive measures to help ensure your safety and wellbeing during your trip.

What is the accommodation like?

Accommodation will be hand selected and a mix of lodges and hotels, rated,  3-4* hotels. The price includes accommodation in a shared private twin sharing room, however, if one wishes to have a private room that sleeps (1 person) this is possible at an additional cost. You could choose your option at check-out. Single supplement is at €650. 

What type of insurance do I need?

Every client is required to have a travel insurance package. This needs to be presented to us prior the trip.

How fit do I need to be for gorilla and chimpanzee trekking?

Trekking can be strenuous, involving 2–6 hours of hiking in hilly, muddy terrain. Moderate fitness is enough, but you should be comfortable walking on uneven ground. Porters are available to help.

Currency and preferred payment method while in Kenya, Uganda, & Rwanda

  • Kenya: uses Kenyan Shillings (KES)
  • Rwanda: Uses the Rwandan franc (RWF).
  • Uganda: Uses the Ugandan shilling (UGX).

How about food?

During your trip, expect a mix of buffet-style international and local dishes at lodges/hotels, with packed lunches provided for game drives and excursions.

If you have dietary restrictions or allergies, inform us ahead of time so we can notify the lodges and camps. Bottled or filtered water will be provided at all times.

  • Tour timings and the order of activities are subject to change based on final flight schedules or unforeseen circumstances, such as the unavailability of certain activities. A final version of the itinerary will be provided in booklet form closer to the trip dates. We strive to provide equivalent alternatives to ensure the best experience for our travelers.

Cancellation Policy

  • If you cancel your booking, we will offer a refund of any balance which we have not yet paid or are obliged to pay to any other Third Party. When a booking is cancelled within the month prior to departure, the remaining balance will be non refundable as well as we would be fully committed at that stage. All types of travel insurance are supposed to cover “cancellations” and for this reason we require that such travel insurance is purchased prior to travel.
